Research Associate – Data Focused

Professors Patrick Baylis at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and Abid Burki at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), along with Sajid Faiz at the International Growth Centre (IGC), Abubakr Memon (LUMS), and Talha Naeem (UBC), are seeking a Research Associate based in Pakistan for six months to support projects related to climate change and agriculture.

This position is data-focused, with a strong emphasis on data collection, management, and analysis using techniques such as web scraping, geocoding, and spatial analysis.

Location: Lahore, Pakistan (preferred)
Contract Period: 6 months (can be extended depending upon performance and funding)
Compensation: Competitive

Key Responsibilities:

• Collect large-scale data using web scraping and geospatial tools
• Clean, synthesize, and analyze complex datasets
• Conduct statistical analyses of data using Stata, R, and Python
• Undertake literature review, both independently and in conjunction with researchers
• Excellent communication, management, and organizational skills
• Support PIs with additional research-related tasks as needed

Required Qualifications:

• MS/MA in Economics, Data Science, Computer Science, Public Policy or a related field
• Ability to take initiative and work, and solve problems independently
