Bilal Siddiqi

Bilal Siddiqi is an economist working on poverty, institutions, and conflict in low-and-middle income countries. He serves as a Senior Economist and Director at IDinsight, and was previously an economist at the World Bank’s Development Research Group and Director of Research at UC Berkeley’s Center for Effective Global Action. His research focuses on public sector governance and justice reform, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected situations. He is involved in a range of field experiments in Africa and South Asia, involving legal aid, mediation, post-conflict reconciliation, public service providers, and commercial investors. He has also worked with governments to conduct impact evaluation into their operations, and overseen global research programs on justice reform and digital ID systems.
Dr. Siddiqi received his MPhil and PhD in Economics from Oxford University, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar and was affiliated with the Centre for the Study of African Economies.
