Consortium for Development Policy Research (CDPR) hosted its twenty-ninth Lahore Policy Exchange, titled “Introducing environment-friendly & fuel-efficient brick kiln technology in Punjab.”
Punjab brick industry’s conventional brick kilns “Bull’s Trench Kiln (BTK) – emit harmful particulates and greenhouse gases that contribute to deteriorating air quality in the province. Replacing BTKs with a new energy efficient brick kiln technology – Induced Draft Zigzag Kilns (IDZKs) – has the potential to create considerable environmental and economic benefits, including 70% less emissions and lower health expenditures. These findings can potentially help frame the Environmental Protection Department Punjab’s policy that ties in with their goal of improving ambient air quality in the province.
