On 10th November 2021, CDPR conducted a stakeholder workshop which brought together a group of 15 individuals–urban planners, government officials, activists and researchers to explore short, medium, and long-term actionable measures that need to be initiated to make public spaces safer for women. It began with a discussion of current planning measures undertaken to encourage women’s participation in public spaces and went on to explore potential future initiatives. It also discussed the potential problems in implementing measures designed to encourage women’s participation in public spaces. The attendees included urban planners such as Mr. Arif Hasan, Ms. Sarah Ahmad and Ms. Fizzah Sajjad; government representatives such as Dr. Omar Masud from the Urban Unit and officials from the Punjab Safe Cities Authority; researchers including Dr. Masooma Habib, Dr. Hamna Ahmad, Dr. Naved Hamid, Ms. Eisha Shakeel and Ms. Tazeen Shaikh (Karachi Urban Lab, IBA), Mr. Zain Chaudhry and Dr. Karrar Hussain and activists Ms. Mumtaz Mughal and Ms. Tahira Abdullah.
