Mujtaba Piracha

Dr. Piracha is an officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service (23rd Common) and his last appointment was Pakistan’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization in Geneva. Earlier, he has served as Commissioner Lahore Division, Secretary Industries Punjab and at various appointments in Finance and Planning Departments; and initial field assignments in Baluchistan. He has also worked in the non-government development sector including the Aga Khan Development Network. He holds a PhD in Development Studies from the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex and graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK. Dr Piracha has published academic articles internationally. His book ‘Property taxes and state incapacity in Pakistan’, published by the Oxford University Press won the ‘Bloomsbury Pakistan, UK’ Book Award for 2022.
