The CNM Department of Economics at LUMS, the Mahbub Ul Haq Research Centre at LUMS, the Consortium for Development Policy Research (CDPR), and Rizq collaborated to host a workshop on the state of food security in Pakistan, bringing together perspectives from research, policy, and practice.

Pakistan faces increasingly frequent food-related shocks — from climate-induced floods and heatwaves to price spikes and supply chain disruptions. These shocks expose the fragility of our food. The workshop explored how Pakistan can build food systems that are resilient and sustainable, engaging with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on responsible production and consumption, and climate action.

The objective of this workshop was to bring together researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to reflect on the state of food security in Pakistan and identify pathways toward more inclusive and resilient systems.

The conversation focused on two interrelated priorities:

  • Resilience — strengthening food systems against climatic, economic, and governance shocks.
  • Sustainability — encouraging responsible production, innovation, and long-term environmental stewardship.
